Day 2

Sunday December 29, 2013

Today we received the results from the Pediatric Radiologist. We were so glad to hear that the readings came back with results indicating that there was not any cranial hemorrhaging. We are so thankful to all that are praying for their well-being as your prayers are working!

Marcello is doing great today and weighed in at 1 lb. 5 oz. An ultrasound was done and they found that he has a large Patent Ductus Arteriosus or PDA. PDA is a small hole that is found between the heart right and left side of the heart. This is common with premature babies and they will be monitoring his heart to ensure that the valve closes. The decision was also made to move Marcello to the High Frequency Jet Ventilator. This ventilator delivers softer puffs of air into their lungs and gets their lungs closer to natural breathing (as natural as you can get while on ventilation). This transition will not occur until sometime late tomorrow.

Manuel's weight came down a little to 1lb 4.5 oz. This is deemed to be natural as they are not on any fats with their current diet. He came off the phototherapy for now and may need to go back on depending on his bilirubin levels. We found out that Manuel will have to have another blood transfusion and that one of his umbilical lines used to deliver the blood had clotted. They will need to run an IV on his left arm for him to receive his blood transfusion. He continues to have two good umbilical lines that will continue to be used to deliver his meds and fluids. Manuel continues to be on Oscillatory Ventilation.

Mateo and Marquez came up to visit, but at this time were not allowed to enter the NICU so they spent some quality time catching up with Mommy and Daddy. Unfortunately Macario was sick and not allowed to come up for a visit.
